IPL 2023 : Ravi Shashtri's comments about Virat Kohli getting more runs than Rohit Sharma stirs up a lot of heat!

Two Indian batting legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had two different performances last night at the tailor made track for Batting at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. It was Kohli who helped RCB earn a win in their opening match against MI at home as Faf Du Plesis’ side won the game by 8 wickets.

While Rohit Sharma had bad luck with him right from the beginning as he first loss the toss and then while opening the first innings, the right-handed batter could only score 1 run off 10 balls before Akash Deep got rid out of him. Mumbai’s batting later succumbed to the pressure only for Tilak Verma to save their sinking ship.

Verma’s quickfire 84 off 46 balls included Nine 4’s and Four 6’s powered by a strike rate of 182. In response, Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plesis stole the show through their 148-run partnership for the first wicket. As Rohit flopped, Kohli shone and chose to hit back his critics through a match winning knock.

The former Indian Captain sparked up the conversation of who is better as a batter Rohit Sharma or himself. It was Kohli’s 50th half-century in IPL history by smacking Six 4’s and Five 6’s with a decent strike rate of 167.35. During the 2nd inning, the league had also put out a comparison between Rohit Sharma and Kohli.

Indian commentator and 1983 world cup winner Ravi Shashtri also had his say in about the debate and the former India head coach backed Kohli all the way to have a wonderful season. Shashtri also said that we could see Rohit Sharma going off as well but he will not be as consistent as Kohli thus lagging behind him in terms of more runs.

“The fact that he has to bat long and deep will allow him to get those volume of runs. On the other hand, with Rohit Sharma, you will see some short bursts, some match-winning bursts but in terms of volume, Virat will get a lot of runs this season.” – said Shashtri during commentary.Â
