Australian International All-rounder Cameron Green is more than just excited to play in front of Mumbai Indians home fans at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 16. As we all know, the premier T20 tournament took place inside closed doors without fans for 2 years due to covid restrictions.
However, 2023 season will mark the return of fans into the stadium and the Australian All-rounder is buzzing ahead of his side’s opening match against Faf Du Plesis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy stadium. He received the taste of how it is like to play at Wankhede during India and Australia’s 1st of the 3-match ODI series.
Although, Green did not impact the game that much as he scored just 12 runs and remained wicketless in a low scoring contest won by India enroute KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja’s match winning partnership. As the season begins, Green could become a major player for MI and he shared his thoughts ahead of season 16.
“The ground’s pretty special, I’m lucky enough to play here and was here a few weeks ago (when Australia played India in an ODI on March 17). It’s a cool ground to be around with all the blues here. Can’t wait to see when its packed.”
In the most recent three-match ODI series, which Australia won by a score of 2-1, Green returned from a finger injury to play in the third and fourth Tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against India in Indore and Ahmedabad.
He had made his first Test century in the fourth Test match that was tied at Ahmedabad, but he was ineffective in the ODI series. Green’s first significant IPL role will be playing for Mumbai in 2023.
Green was purchased by Mumbai in the mini-auction last year for a staggering price of INR 17.5 crores, making him the second most expensive player in the tournament’s history and the most expensive contract secured by any player from his nation.
