IPL 2023 : BCCI fines Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir 100% of their match fees while Naveen Ul-Haq fined 50%!

For violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the Lucknow Super Giants vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore game at the Ekana Stadium at Lucknow on Monday, the BCCI took severe action against Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, and Naveen-ul-Haq.

The Afghanistan International lost 50% of his match fees for a Level 1 offence while the famous or infamous duo Kohli and Gambhir were each fined 100% of their match fees after being found guilty of a Level 2 offence. Gambhir, Kohli, and Naveen all acknowledged their wrongdoing and consented to the punishments.

Throughout LSG’s pursuit, Kohli was energised and extra animated. It appeared to be in retaliation for LSG coach Gambhir’s extravagant celebrations following their victory over RCB in the first leg earlier in the season. The RCB warrior was seen yelling, pounding his fists, and even placing a finger to his lips before pleading with the crowd to speak out. It was in response to Gambhir’s shushing motion following the last-ball suspense in Bangalore.

But in the second half of the LSG pursuit, things really got heated. Amit Mishra and Naveen-ul-Haq from the LSG cricket team and Kohli got into an argument in the 17th over that lasted long after the game was done.

When the players from both teams gathered to shake hands, Kohli and Naveen once more exchanged words before the Afghanistan bowler was seen rubbing off Kohli following an aggressive handshake. The LSG opener Kyle Mayers and Kohli were then spotted chatting when Gambhir arrived and removed the left-hander. This appeared to not sit well with Kohli, who gave him a long look before leaving.

But Gambhir wasn’t through yet. He was spotted throwing Kohli a mouthful. Despite the efforts of his colleagues, especially captain KL Rahul, the former India opener appeared to be storming towards Kohli several times. The situation got worse when Gambhir broke free and confronted Kohli, who also did not back down. The players got into a heated argument, and Kohli appeared to be attempting to explain the situation to Gambhir.

“Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Virat Kohli has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Lucknow Super Giants.”
