Inter Milan VS. AC Milan: Head to Head record between the age old rivals..

The UEFA Champions League semifinal will pit Italy’s two top clubs against one another. Tomorrow at San Siro, AC Milan and Inter Milan will square off for the first time in a semifinal matchup between Milan teams since 2005.

One of the biggest rivalries in the history of football is the Rivalry della Madonnina, or the Milan derby. Since the beginning, Inter fans have been perceived as wealthy and have travelled in groups on their opulent bikes to the stadiums, whereas AC Milan fans have always been seen as less fortunate and have taken public transport. This disparity intensified the rivalry, but somehow the gap in wealth has been bridged, and the supporters are now determined by their families’ beliefs and cultural norms.

 

Inter, referred to as The Nerazzurri, has been playing well lately and has picked up five straight victories. As evidenced by their performance in the last few games, the Rossoneri or AC Milan have not been performing to their full potential. Given that Napoli won the Scudetto this year, neither team had a chance to win it. They have the chance to redeem themselves for their shortcomings in the Champions League.

Despite playing each other more than 300 times, the two football superpowers have only met four times during a European Championship. Milan won two of those four games, while the other two were draws, leaving Inter without a victory.

 

Milan has won the Champions League a total of seven times; the most recent victory came in 2007, when the team featured the most famous footballers in the world. When Mourinho led Inter to victory in the 2010 Champions League, the team earned its second league championship after 45 years of futility.

The last time these two Milan clubs faced off in a Champions League match, in 2005, the fans went absolutely insane, and the game had to be interrupted in the 70th minute owing to an explosion by the Inter fans. This indicates that this match is going to be incredibly captivating

 

and dramatic. This game will not be missed because it is one of the most significant in football history.
