Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri pays tribute to Dean Jones after his shocking demise

Cricketer turned commentator, Dean Jones passed away on Thursday due to a massive cardiac arrest. He was a part of the commentary panel for the ongoing 2020 edition of Indian Premier League. At 59, he breathed his last while staying in the bio-secure bubble in a seven-star hotel in Mumbai.

Indian team head coach, Ravi Shastri expressed his condolence over Dean Jones’ demise, on his Twitter handle. 

Really shocking to lose a colleague and a dear friend – Dean Jones. Gone so young. Condolences to the family and may his soul rest in peace #RIPDeanJones”, he tweeted.  

While talking to TOI, Shastri called Dean Jones as the one best one-day players the world has ever seen. He described him as a cricketer who was ahead of his time while praising him for his excellent running between the wickets. 

Dean Jones is counted amongst the best one-day players of all time. Jones represented Australia in 54 Test matches and 164 ODIs, scoring 3631 and 6068 runs respectively. He has 11 centuries in Test Cricket and 7 centuries in one-day cricket to his name. 

Other cricketers such as Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Harsha Bhogle etc also took to Twitter to express their condolences over the Australian cricketer’s shocking demise.

“Saddened to hear the news of Dean Jones passing away. Still cannot believe it. Was one of my favourite commentators, he was on air in many of my landmarks. Had really fond memories with him. Will miss him,” Virender Sehwag wrote in his Tweet.
