Indian Boxer Mary Kom & Husband K. Onler apparently heading for a Divorce: Big Breaking
Indian boxing star Mary Kom has come into limelight suddenly, but this time due to personal reasons.
As per a recent news publishing, her marriage may soon be ending for good, with she and husband K. Onler heading for a divorce, as the couple has been living separately for a while now.
The Olympic medallist is reportedly facing major upheaval with multiple sources confirming that she and her husband are officially separated. However, sources claim that that no divorce proceedings have been initiated yet.
Rumours of an extra-marital affair have garnered attention and has been identified as the main reason for this alleged split. The couple, known to be a beacon of love and support, is believed to have started living apart shortly after Onler’s unsuccessful run in the 2022 Manipur assembly elections.
‘Mary moved to Faridabad with their (four) children, while Onler has been living in Delhi with some family members,’ a source close to the couple told Hindustan Times.
‘Their differences escalated after the elections. Mary was reportedly unhappy about the financial losses — around INR 2–3 crores — incurred during the campaign and (the fact) that he lost.’
Another insider claims that Onler was quite hesitant reluctant to enter politics, being fully aware that the political situation in Manipur was unstable and entering may prove to be a risky move. It was Mary who pushed him, and as a result things worsened between them post the loss in the electoral campaign.
Several people within the boxing community have hinted at Mary being in another relationship. Speculation has been fuelled further with her recent Instagram posts featuring the potential new partner as her business associate.
Looking back at their relationship evolution, their love story began in 2000 in Delhi, when Onler, who was a student at Delhi University’s Law Faculty, helped Mary when she had supposedly lost her baggage.
The duo got married in 2005 and have been parents to four children since then. Onler, a footballer, chose to put his career on hold so that he could raise the kids and take care of the house.
Mary, a passionate boxer, is one of the most iconic pugilists in the country, with six world championships and an Olympics bronze to her name. She has often called Onler her pillar of strength.
Mary and Onler’s epic story were the inspiration behind the 2014 superhit film Mary Kom, starring Priyanka Chopra.
While the couple has not made any official statement, this shocking news has definitely caused a stir in the sports community already. Though the divorce news is yet to be confirmed, this separation is quite unexpected, and if turns out to be true, then Mary Kom’s name gets added to the long list of sports-celebrity couples going their separate ways in recent times.
Mary Kom’s contribution has been immense. The consecutive world champion has significantly boosted the profile of Indian boxing, inspiring a new generation of female athletes through her legacy as being a role model in every way.
