IND Vs SL 2nd ODI : Rohit Sharma shares his opinion about Shami's run-out attempt

The Indian Pacer tried to Mankad Lanka captain at the non-striker’s end on 98*

In a bizarre development of things last night at Guwahati, Mohammed Shami while bowling the 50th Over, tried to swiftly remove Sri-Lanka‘s Captain Dasun Shanaka when he was at the non-striker’s end. Shanaka was playing on 98 but stood ahead of the crease and Shami seized the opportunity by quickly hitting the stumps, mid-action.

The 32-year-old deceived almost everyone in the field and caught Dasun Shanaka by surprise who must have had his heart coming out of the mouth after realizing Shami almost removed him.

However, it was the captain who came to rescue another Captain as Rohit Sharma spoke to Shami and withdrew their appeal, keeping Shanaka alive for the Century. The Sri-Lankan Captain scored 108 runs and ended the match on a high as he smacked a 4 and 6 in the final two balls.

Sri-Lanka went on to lost the match as India clinched a famous victory enroute Rohit Sharma, Shubhman Gill and Virat Kohli’s First-inning explosions. India were anyways riding high on Virat Kohli’s 45th ODI Century and registered their 94th win against Blue Lions.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma during the post-match presentations cleared his intentions as he admitted that they did not want to dismiss Dasun Shanaka like that. “I had no idea Shami had done that. When he went up in an appeal. Again, he is batting on 98. The way he batted was brilliant.”

“We got to give it to him. We cannot get him out like that. We wanted to get him out the way we thought we would get him out. But that was not something that we thought of. But again, hats off to him, he played really well. – Rohit told Star Sports after the game.
