ICC U19 Women’s World Cup: Shafali Verma and Company registered second victory of marquee event

U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup consists of 16 teams, divided in the set of four in 4 different groups in which India women team is playing in Group D. Following their victory over South Africa in their first match India defeated UAE by 122 runs in their second World Cup match, scoring a significant victory. UAE never looked back while pursuing 220 as it finished on 97/5 in their allotted 20 overs, unable to barely reach the 100 run threshold.

India completed a convincing victory over UAE thanks to the controlled line and length of their bowling. Shafali Verma, the captain, got things off to an explosive start earlier by smashing 78 off just 34 balls. She added 111 runs to the opening stand with Shweta Sehrawat. After Shafali was overthrown, Sehrawat and Ghosh grabbed control and pounded UAE bowlers all over the field.

While defeating proteas in the first match, the India women’s team is presently in first place in Group D. India has moved above UAE with a significantly improved Net Run Rate after to a convincing victory over the Proteas.

As, India got off to a fantastic World Cup start in their previous encounter. Sehrawat thoroughly dismantled South Africa’s bowling assault while putting on a display of batting. With 26 runs off the final over of the powerplay, Shafali got the chase for 167 off to a flying start. The vice-captain assumed control after she left, and the Women in Blue never appeared to be losing control of their pursuit.

Winning  the second match, Indian Women team has won both the matches and remains undefeated in tournament till now. India will play it’s next match with Scotland on 18 January. This is the first ever edition of the U-19 W- World Cup and is hosted by South Africa, being played in t20 format.
