ICC ODI Rankings : Mohammed Siraj climbs to the No.1 spot

Mohammed Siraj

Indian Pacer Mohammed Siraj surpassed all other bowlers to take the top spot in the ICC rankings for ODI bowlers on Wednesday, demonstrating his quick ascension in international cricket. For the first time, Siraj surpassed Josh Hazlewood of Australia and Trent Boult of New Zealand to take the top spot among ODI bowlers. Not only has Siraj’s performance over the past 12 months been outstanding, but his performance in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand earlier this month at home demonstrated just how much the right-armer has advanced in recent years.

Siraj was the leading wicket taker of Sri Lanka series as he finished up with nine wickets in that series. Siraj followed that up with a four-wicket haul in the first game of the just-completed series against New Zealand.

With this now Siraj overtakes Hazlewood at the top of the ODI bowling rankings with 729 rating points, however only by a small margin. The Australian bowler is rated two rating points lower than Siraj.

When questioned about the young pacer in the wake of the series rout of New Zealand, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was all praise for Siraj. Rohit said ”He has performed quite well and is aware of the expectations the squad has for him”.

The top spot in the ODI batter rankings still belongs to Pakistan captain Babar Azam, but three Indian players are now in the top 10 and vying for it.
