ICC CWC 2023: Glenn Maxwell scores Fastest ODI world cup 100 in 40 balls against Netherlands
Glenn Maxwell achieved the quickest century in the history of the ODI World Cup during a match against the Netherlands at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, October 25. In the process, he surpassed the previous record set by South Africa’s Aiden Markram earlier in the tournament.
Maxwell completed his century in just 40 balls after a beamer from Netherlands all-rounder Bas de Leede on the leg stump, which he promptly dispatched over the long leg boundary. When Maxwell came to bat in the 40th over, few would have expected him to reach a century, but not only did he achieve this milestone, he did so 19 balls faster than the previous record.

Maxwell displayed his aggressive prowess, consistently hammering and dispatching the bowlers to all corners of the field. He reached his fifty in 26 deliveries and went on to achieve a century in just 14 more balls. During his innings, the Australian cricketer hit nine boundaries and six maximums.
Although Australia had a slow start after losing Mitchell Marsh early in the fourth over, a partnership between Steve Smith and David Warner set the stage for a competitive total. While wickets fell in quick succession in the middle overs, Maxwell’s rapid scoring ensured that Australia posted a massive total of 399 runs on the scoreboard.
A block-buster 100 off just 40 balls for Glenn Maxwell!
