England white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan is certainly touted as one of the best leaders who are playing modern cricket. He is also lauded by several cricket pundits for changing the mindset of England’s white-ball side.
Under his leadership, England managed to win their first 50 over World Cup in 2019. On several occasions, his captaincy is often compared with Indian skipper MS Dhoni.
However former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt has a different opinion on this as he questioned Morgan’s tactical decision on the field as England’s skipper comes out to chase 350 but doesn’t have any strategy to restrict opposition below 350.
Further, the Pakistan veteran slammed former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, saying that the latter might be a great batsman but he isn’t a good leader.
He also added that Du Plesis’s poor captaincy in the 2019 World Cup in South Africa has affected their performance in the marquee event.
“Faf du Plessis is a great batsman, but his tactical decisions in the World Cup in England were not that good. Poor execution from bowlers can make the captain look like someone who doesn’t have great plans.MS Dhoni is a fine example of a great tactician. Rohit Sharma’s tactics in the IPL were spot on,” Butt said.
“Currently, I don’t think Eoin Morgan is a great tactical captain. He is almost prepared to chase down a total in excess of 300-350 and thus, he doesn’t seem to have great plans to restrict the opposition,” he added.
