Harbhajan Singh opens up on why Yuzvendra Chahal is being constanlty overlooked by Indian selectors

Yuzvendra Chahal

Indian Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been among the most talked about Cricketers for quite some time now. The reason for his presence in the news is not because of any record or performance but due to BCCI constantly denying him a chance to return to the Indian team.

Neither was he a part of India’s Asia Cup 2023 winning side nor is he a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 squad. Many were left shocked by that decision but it definitely is surprising the way BCCI has been treating Chahal off late.

His numbers in ODI cricket or T20 are not bad either and there is a possibility that his exclusion might not entirely be on the basis of his performance. And thats because Yuzvendra Chahal has a total of 121 wickets in 72 ODIs with an average of 27.13 boasted by a very good economy rate of 5.27.

In the shortest format, Chahal has picked up 96 wickets in 80 matches and he has also played in several ICC tournaments including the 2019 Cricket World Cup. His last T20 appearance for India came in August and India will not play any T20 game until November.

But his last ODI appearance was in January against New Zealand and there are no such signs of his return in the format at least until November, the 50-over World Cup. However, he still is getting enouget

h game time at England with Kent County Club.

Meanwhile, Former Indian Off-spinner and 2007 T20 & 2011 CWC winner Harbhajan Singh shared his perspective on Yuzi Chahal’s case. Bhajji fears that Chahal might have said something he shouldn’t have or would have fought with someone at a higher position.

He also said that Chahal’s absence is quite surprising and the subject is beyond his understanding and also highlighted the lack of opportunities being thrown at his way and comended BCCI’s decision to not give respect to his skillset.

“Yuzvendra Chahal should have been here. He has not been given an opportunity. It is beyond my understanding. Either he has fought with someone or he has said something to someone, I don’t know,” Harbhajan said on his official YouTube channel.”

“If we talk only about skill, his name should have been there in this team because a lot of Team India players are resting.” – Harbhajan Singh added.
