Boxing Day Test match between Australia and India was certainly not easy for the visitors especially when they were completely outplayed in the second innings of the first Test match where Indian batters were bundled out for 36 runs due to amazing bowling performance from Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins. As Kohli went back home due to paternity leave and in his absence, the captaincy was given to Ajinkya Rahane who was fantastic with his bowling and fielding changes on the first day of the second Test. He attacked with close-in fielders and made some wise bowling changes that worked wonders for the team.

Former Indian Cricketer Virender Sehwag wrote on his official Twitter handle praising Rahane’s captaincy on the first day “Outstanding bowling changes and really smart fielding placements from Rahane. And the bowlers delivered. Ashwin, Bumrah, Siraj were absolutely brilliant. Great effort to get Australia all out for 195 on the first day. Now for the batters to get a good first-innings lead #AUSvIND,”

It was followed by praise from another former Indian great VVS Laxman who praised Rahane’s captaincy and appreciated Indian players that they forget the scar of the recently concluded first Test match and displayed an amazing bowling and fielding performance where he wrote on his official Twitter handle “Excellent days play for India. Bowlers were once again sensational, both the debutants looked confident, Rahane captained the side really well but most importantly they didn’t carry the baggage of the loss from Adelaide. #INDvAUS,”

Legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne also praised the Indian team’s performance on the first day of the Test match where he wrote on his official Twitter handle but raised questions that whether India will be able to bat the entire day on the second day of the Test match.

“What a terrific day of cricket at the MCG today. Congrats to the ground staff on preparing the best wicket at the MCG for a long time. More of these types of pitches, please! The Indian bowlers were outstanding too & very well lead by @ajinkyarahane88! Can India bat all day?” Warne Tweeted.
