Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo who arrived at Manchester City as a Right-back, transformed into a versatile left-back under head coach Pep Guardiola has signed a loan deal with German giants Bayern Munich. This news was indeed a shocker as no one saw this coming.
Last season, Cancelo was among the best full-backs in Europe thanks to his stellar performances throughout the 2021/22 season. However, this season his relationship with Pep deteriorated because of a lack of game time. As we all know, Guardiola is someone who likes to rotate his XI regularly to keep things in shape and in motion.

But, Cancelo reportedly was irritated of the Spaniard’s decision to leave him on bench. Before the season began, Raheem Sterling also left the Etihad for Chelsea to have more game time and Cancelo has followed his lead.

Bayern Munich have been long time admirers of the Portuguese full back and there is an option of making the deal permanent if Cancelo suits Bayern’s style of play. Cancelo arrived at the blue-half of Manchester 3 years ago from Juventus and last year he even extended his stay till 2027 and also became the club’s new number 7.
