Five Rohit Sharma Records that Even Virat Kohli hasn’t Achieved

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Two of the greatest Indian cricketers of this generation, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been stealing our hearts for the last one decade with their phenomenal performances with the bat. While Virat Kohli is currently the only the playing cricketer who looks close to reaching the most number of runs in ODI cricket, time and again the vice-captain of Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma has shown us why he is called the most effortless batsmen in World Cricket.

Ever Since Virat Kohli has made his debut in International Cricket, the Indian skipper has been breaking records, be it fastest to 10,000 runs or the fastest century by Indian cricketer in Odis. Given the standard of fitness he maintains and the rate at which he is scoring runs, Virat Kohli is expected to break almost every record by the time he retires from International cricket.

India’s limited over’s vice-captain Rohit Sharma has also carved out a niche for himself in the International cricket. Rohit Sharma in white-ball cricket has made some outstanding records which perhaps would be impossible to break even for the record master Virat Kohli.

Here’s a look at five of those records:

1. Five centuries in a single World Cup

Rohit Sharma enjoyed a stellar 2019 World Cup, held in England. The right handed batsman notched as many as five centuries in a single world cup. Though, he couldn’t help his team win the World Cup having fallen cheaply in the semi-final.

Rohit Sharma has now six centuries in two world cups, whereas Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has only hit two centuries in the world cups.

2. Test Century on Debut

Rohit Sharma hasn’t enjoyed a lot of success in Test cricket, given he has been in and out of the side regularly. However, in his debut match in 2013 against West Indies at one of his favourite grounds, Rohit Sharma played a sensational 177 run knock. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, in his debut match had scored 4 and 15 in first and second innings respectively. Of all the records, this record has indeed become impossible to break for Virat.

3. Most sixes in ODI cricket for India

Usually takes time at the start, but once the India’s limited over’s vice-captain gets set, he becomes one of the most ferocious hitters the world has ever seen. Hitting the ball effortlessly into the stands is something Rohit Sharma has been blessed with. Interestingly, Rohit currently holds the record for scoring most number of sixes by an Indian in ODI cricket.

He has recently surpassed MS Dhoni to become the leading Indian batsman to have scored the most number of sixes in one-day cricket. He has as many as 232 sixes to his name, fourth in all-time most sixes record.

4. Captain of IPL winning Team

Rohit Sharma has been the most successful captain in the history of Indian Premier League, winning the title as many as four times. The fact why he is regarded as one of the finest captains in white-ball cricket is that the Mumbai Indians skipper has beaten Dhoni-led CSK three times in the IPL final.

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, is yet to clinch a single IPL title in the history of the league.

5. Double Century in One-day cricket

Rohit Sharma Double Century

Virat Kohli might be ahead of Rohit Sharma in terms of number of runs and centuries in one-day cricket, but the Indian skipper is yet to score a double-hundred in his one-day cricket. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, has hit not just one or two but three double-hundreds in one-day Internationals.

Notching up three double-hundreds in white-ball cricket is no small feat and but it seems like a piece of cake for the Mumbai batsman.
