FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022: 7 Jharkhand Tribal Girls Make It To FIFA U-17 WC Camp

For the upcoming 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, the Jharkhand government has selected 7 tribal girls for the selected state for the national training camp for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. A total of 33 players have arrived in Jamshedpur for the tournament.

The Government has also ensured all the support to the 7 tribal girls who are selected for the upcoming training camp.

The Jharkhand girls among the 33 Indian players are Anjali Munda, Salina Kumari, Suda Ankita Turki, Astam Oraun, Purnima Kumari, Nietu Linda, and Anita Kumari.

After the completion of the training camp out of 33 players, Only 18 will make it to the final squad for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

The Jharkhand government said in a statement that the girls from the respective state have shown great strength and courage.

“Now, they are all ready to represent the nation. The state government… has also demonstrated the much-needed desire to realize their dreams. The selected candidates from the camps will be supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs,” the statement added.

Purnima Kumari, One of the players selected for the training camp stated their previous training camp in Goa got canceled due to the pandemic and was happy with Jharkhand Government as they are helping young girls to practice for the upcoming U-17 women’s World Cup.

“My village did not have training facilities, especially for girls who play football. But the help and support from the state ensured that I could play,” she added.

Earlier the selected seven girls were training in Goa in February month but had train to return to Jharkhand due to the pandemic and the training was later arranged in Ranchi.

UNICEF also supported these girls by providing them with football equipment for training camp.

One more time India will be hosting the U-17 women’s world cup 2022, the selected venues are Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneswar, JNU Stadium in Goa, and DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai. 

U-17 Women’s World cup 2022 draws will be held on June 24 in Zurich, Switzerland.

Midfielders: Payal, Kalpana, Shailja, Moirangthem Ambika Devi, R Madhumathi, Loktongbam Shelia Devi, Babina Devi, Gladys Zonunsangi, Shubhangi Singh, Nitu Linda.

Forwards: Neha, Lavanya, Anita Kumari, Reshma, Vinothini, Dharshini, Laishram Rejiya Devi, Lynda Kom Serto.
