English Premier League 2022/23 : Liverpool in “7th” heaven after embarrassing Manchester United!

English Premier League 2022/23 : Liverpool in "7th" heaven after embarrassing Manchester United!

After tasting EFL/Carabao Cup success last Sunday at Wembley, Manchester United crumbled in front of 5th placed Premier League side and last season’s runners-up Liverpool in the most embarrassing way possible. Jurgen Klopp’s side welcomed a resilient Man United totally transformed under Erik Ten Hag at Anfield for a 7-0 battering.

Not many would have expected this outcome in fact, people were betting on Liverpool to lose. But the Merseyside in front of their home support, showed what the brand new front three is capable of. The 6-time UCL winners showed Brilliant transitions and executed their plans perfectly to not just score 7 but concede none.

The first 45 minutes was rather a quiet first-half but Liverpool did land the first blow. It was in the 43rd minute when left back Andy Roberston’s vision spotted a gap in the Man United defense as the Scottish found January signing Cody Gakpo, who then finished off an absolute banger of a goal through a curled shot.

In the next half, as Erik Ten Hag said “Manchester United were totally unprofessional”. Liverpool punished a lackluster United defense which won the Carabao Cup last Sunday against Newcastle United. Darwin Nunez doubled the home team’s lead through a header in the 47th minute with Gakpo getting his brace goal 3 minutes later from a tight angle.

The Reds scored the 4th goal through Mohammed Salah in the 66th minute enroute a pacy counter attack assisted by Nunez who again got on the score sheet in the 75th minute.

Salah and Roberto Firmino finished off an emphatic night at Anfield by scoring Liverpool’s 6th & 7th goal to take them in the 5th spot with 42 points.
