Dinesh Karthik to continue as Kolkata Knight Riders’ skipper

Kolkata Knight Riders have confirmed that Dinesh Karthik will continue to lead them in IPL 2020. The head coach, Brendon McCullum said that the Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batsman is the team’s best captaincy choice. However, the team’s mentor, Abhishek Nayar mentioned that the 2019 World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan will be an important member of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ leadership group, but the side will be led by Karthik.

Dinesh Karthik had joined the Kolkata Knight Riders squad in IPL 2018 and with Gautam Gambhir having chosen to leave KKR, Karthik became the captain. He inspired his team to the playoffs in the eleventh IPL season but last year they failed to make it to the playoffs. Hence, the fans felt that KKR require a new captain.

KKR coach Brendon McCullum confirmed Karthik’s captaincy during the presser at the auctions. “Dinesh Karthik is definitely our captain,” he said. Nayar, on the other hand, said, “Morgan’s recent form has been tremendous. As a part of the leadership group, he will add a lot of strength and power to what we already have in our squad.”

Eoin Morgan, no doubt, possesses one of the best minds in world cricket. He is admired by many for his captaincy. The Englishman had led England to their first-ever World Cup win earlier this year and so the fans expected him to be elected as the new skipper of the two-time champions.

Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, has been a very sporadic member of the Indian cricket team. He has been overlooked time and again in favor of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson but will try to make his way back to the national side by performing well in IPL 2020. Meanwhile, KKR also made history in the IPL 2020 Auction by signing Pat Cummins for a record amount of 15.5 Crores.
