Commonwealth Games 2022: What does winning bronze medal means for Indian DOTA 2 Team in the marquee event?

Indian Esport industry made severe headlines in the last few days when BGMI was officially banned in the country due to security concerns and several people started doubting the future of this fastest-growing ecosystem in the country. 

As they say what naysayers say you shouldn’t believe in it as Indian DOTA 2 created history in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 where they bagged bronze medals and etched their name in the history of the sport.

The Indian Dota 2 team, comprising Moin Ejaz (captain), Ketan Goyal, Abhishek Yadav, Shubhnam Goli, and Vishal Vernekar outclassed New Zealand by 2-0 in best of three f0rmat.

Indian team displayed sublime performance in the night of the final didn’t panicked at the crunch phase of the game and outsmart their opponent with intense game plan and strategies. 

“This win symbolises the amount of hard work the team has put in over the years and we dedicate this win to our country. Winning a medal at the Commonwealth was a dream for us and we’re super proud as a team. We hope that this win will encourage more tournaments around DOTA 2 and other esports titles, which will help the ecosystem as a whole to grow in our country,” said an elated Indian DOTA 2 skipper Moin Ejaz after winning the bronze medal.

“This is a historic win. The team DOTA has made the entire country proud by winning the bronze medal in the first-ever Commonwealth Esports Championship 2022.. Moreover, it’s a dream come true for the Indian Esports Ecosystem as we have won the bronze medal at the Asian Games 2018 as well. The entire esports community is overwhelmed with this win and will fuel many esports athletes to represent India on a global stage in coming years,” said Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation.

India’s next target will be to bag medals in Asian Games and win at Asian Games will boost the confidence of players to wider extent. 

Taking about other team’s performance which include Rocket league where the team failed to reach beyond group stage.  All eyes are now set on Asian Games 2023 which is scheduled to be held in Hangzhou China.
