Can Mumbai Indians still qualify for IPL Playoffs? Take a look at the equation

Mumbai Indians Captain Hardik Pandya

Mumbai Indians had to face defeat in the match played against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024. Due to this defeat, their playoff hopes have suffered a major blow. Now it is very difficult for Mumbai Indians to go to the playoffs but they are not completely out yet and they still have a chance from outside.

Mumbai Indians team is currently at 9th position in the points table. The team has so far won only 3 out of 10 matches, while they have faced defeat in 7 matches. For this reason, the position of Mumbai Indians is not very good in the points table.

The points between them and Royal Challengers Bangalore are equal but the net run rate of Mumbai Indians is slightly better and that is why they are ahead of RCB.

The equation of Mumbai Indians going to the playoffs

If Mumbai Indians want to go to the playoffs, then first of all they will have to win all their remaining matches. The team now has four matches left and if they lose even one of these, then their journey will end there.

Mi currently have to play Kolkata twice, one match with Sunrisers Hyderabad and one match with Lucknow Super Giants. If the team wins all its matches then they will have 14 points. In such a situation, MI will have to pray that Rajasthan Royals win all their matches and finish on top. While KKR remained at second position and Lucknow Super Giants lost all their remaining matches.

Apart from this, if Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad also lose four out of their remaining five matches, then MI will have a chance to enter the playoffs with 14 points.

However, it is very difficult for this to happen because Mumbai has only two matches with KKR. Even if they defeat KKR in both the matches, they will not have any chances.
