Better Late than Never for Suraj Desai

Suraj Desai

Suraj DesaiYoungster Suraj Desai had a dream start to his Pro Kabaddi League career as he scored a wonderful 18 points in his debut match, which also broke the record of the highest score on debut. This came against Dabang Delhi side on 24th July at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad.

Suraj Desai broke the record of his own brother Siddharth Desai who scored the most number of points in his debut match last season as he turned up for U Mumba in Pro Kabaddi Season 6.

Playing alongside his brother Siddharth, Suraj accrued 18 points in the game, leaving his brother’s record of 15 points behind. Siddharth was happy for his elder brother’s success as he said that the record remained at the home only.

But if one goes by the records, Suraj has achieved more while playing than his brother. He has been part of three Indian national team camps and has played five National Championships for Services. Suraj was a part of Dabang Delhi side in Pro Kabaddi Season 5, but did not get to play a single game in that season.

Talking about the match, Suraj Desai got two touch points in his very first raid, outfoxing the strong Dabang Delhi defence. Suraj then kept building from there as he continuously kept the Dabang Delhi defence on the backfoot. Ravinder Pahal had a torrid time against him, just as he had against his brother Siddharth Desai.

After looking at his performance, the Titans will surely count on his aggressive playing approach for the upcoming games.

Talking about playing alongside his brother for the same side in Pro Kabaddi League, “It was our dream to play for the same Pro Kabaddi team since the league launched. Finally, we could live it,” Suraj told the media.

After the game against Dabang Delhi K.C that actually didn’t go in their favour, Suraj was asked about the debut pressure on which he said, “We had decided before the game. I’ll go for the first raid. If I get out, you can revive me,”

Suraj and Siddharth were born in a Kabaddi loving village, Chandvad taluka, Satara district of Maharashtra. Both the brothers grew up watching and playing Kabaddi. Siddharth Desai was more interested in Academics but Suraj continued playing the sport for his passion. But now they play for the same team leading the raid department for their team. The brothers will take on the opposition defence with the full might.

The 30-year-old has been in the fray, but was devoid of chances. Just as he got his first shot at Pro Kabaddi, he showcased just why he was so highly talked about. With age still on his side, he could go on to achieve much more in the 4-5 years, or more, he has in him.
