Ahmedabad, October 23: Kenya and Sri Lanka made the perfect start to the Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex on Friday, each winning both their men's and women's matches. Uganda's women and Scotland's men also opened with big wins on a day of six results, most of them lopsided.

Two raiders stood out. Scotland's Brar scored 25 points in the men's competition without a single unsuccessful raid, and Kenya's Lavenda Odhiambo matched that total in the women's, carrying almost her side's entire raiding effort on her own.

Men: Kenya, Sri Lanka and Scotland win comfortably

Kenya beat Singapore 48-28 behind 19 raid points from captain James Kamweti. Samuel Wafula added 8 points, half of them from tackles, and Stephen Adongo chipped in with 7. Kenya won the raiding 32-20 and the tackling 12-6, and inflicted four All-Outs without conceding one. Muhammad Aidil Mutalib was Singapore's top scorer with 9 raid points.

Sri Lanka were never troubled in a 48-21 win over Tanzania. Milinda Chathuranga scored 11 raid points from 17 raids and Viduranga added 10, as Sri Lanka outscored Tanzania 25-9 on raids and inflicted six All-Outs. Santhushta led the defence with five tackle points.

Tanzania's defence kept them in the contest for a while, with Hafidhi Ali, captain Masudi Omary and Ibrahim Mashaka taking four tackle points each, and Juma Sultania scored 7 raid points. But 17 unsuccessful raids cost them dearly.

Scotland then routed Australia 59-30. Brar was unstoppable, scoring 25 points, 23 of them from 23 raids, and never once coming back empty-handed. Captain Ryan Mcgallagly added 12 points and Remy Friel 5. Scotland won the raiding 40-25 and the tackling 8-1, and took the All-Out count 8-2.

Jasmeet Grewal was Australia's most productive raider, with 8 points from just three raids, while Divjot Singh and Kuldeep Singh scored 4 each.

Women: Uganda run riot, Odhiambo carries Kenya

Uganda opened with a crushing 61-12 win over Singapore. They scored 33 raid points and 16 tackle points and inflicted 10 All-Outs without conceding one. Nakayongo Shirat, Ademun Lucy and captain Nalubega Olivia scored 8 points each, and Nayiga Mawanda added 7. Singapore captain Anandarajan Sindini led her side with 6 points, but Singapore managed only 10 raid points, 4 of them from Arthi Selvan, and two tackle points.

Kenya's women had to work much harder in a 34-25 win over Bangladesh, and Lavenda Odhiambo did most of it. She made 23 raids and scored 25 points, which was 25 of Kenya's 26 raid points.

Bangladesh matched Kenya for long spells in attack, with Sraboni Mollick and Anzuara Ratry scoring 7 points each and Brishti Biswas adding 5. The difference came from Kenya's four All-Outs to Bangladesh's two and a 2-1 edge in tackle points.

Sri Lanka's women closed the day with a dominant 53-10 win over Scotland. They scored 22 raid points and 20 tackle points and inflicted 10 All-Outs without conceding one. Captain Hansamali took 6 tackle points and Madushani added 5 points. Scotland did not score a single tackle point, and Rowen Strachan's 5 raid points kept their total moving.
