Team India Esports Squad for Asian Games 2023:

In an exciting development, the 19th edition of the Asian Games 2023 is set to take place in Hangzhou, China, from September 23rd to October 8th, 2023. Originally scheduled for 2022, the marquee event was postponed due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. This edition will witness the maiden appearance of esports as an official discipline, with the Indian team competing in four distinct events.

A total of eight esports events will feature in the competition, offering coveted medals in games such as DOTA 2, League of Legends, FIFA Online, Street Fighter V, Arena of Valor, Dream 3 Kingdoms, and PUBG Mobile Versions.

Team India is fully prepared to participate in the esports events of the upcoming Asian Games 2023, commencing on June 21st, 2023. A team of 15 members will proudly represent the nation in this prestigious tournament.

Here is the list of players representing India in their respective events:

  • FIFA Online 4: Charanjot Singh and Karman Singh Tikka
  • DOTA 2: Krish, Abhisek, Shubham, Ketan, and Darshan (Captain)
  • Street Fighter V: Mayank Prajapati and Ayan Biswas
  • League of Legends: Akshaj Shenoy (Captain), Samarth Trivedi, Mihir Ranjan, Aakash Shandaliya, Sanindhya Malik, and Aditya Selvaraj

However, there have been significant changes in the squad as Shikhar Choudhary and Karthik Varma were initially selected to represent the country in Hearthstone. However, the game was later removed from the esports program in May.

The Indian team was selected based on their exceptional performance in the qualifiers conducted by the Esports Federation of India (ESFI). These talented players will face tough competition from other Asian teams, including powerhouses like China, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.

“Esports taking center stage at the Asian Games is the dawn of a new era for competitive gaming, and we urge the entire country to witness it. Our talented athletes are fully prepared to triumph in this life-changing championship,” expressed Lokesh Suji, the current Director and Vice President at the Esports Federation of India.
