Annu Raj Singh was born on 17 February 1984 in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. At the age of 13, the little Annu took up shooting out of all other sports. Annu was greatly inspired by her mother, Meera Singh, who herself was a state-level shooter. Not only her mother but also her father is an experienced shooter at the All Indian level. Her elder brother, Amit Raj Singh is also a national-level shooter. Annu never really faced any sort of problem to pursue her dreams as her parents were always supportive and believed her dreams more than her. They very well knew that Annu was talented enough and she proved herself by not only winning numerous medals but also by creating a record in the first Junior Nationals she competed in.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
The pistol shooter, Annu Raj Singh, has been trained under Sunny Thomas who is a national coach. Annu started shooting in 1998.
In 2002, she achieved her first victory in 25 m Pistol at the National Junior Championship & ever since there was no looking back for Singh. Annu has so far participated in 10 national shooting championships & earned a total of 27 medals. In 2007, the pistol shooter successfully earned 3 gold medals & 1 silver in pistol discipline at the 33rd National Games. In 2009, she was the national champion in the 10 m pistol.
Annu Raj Singh created history by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win a quota & qualify for the Olympics. She acquired this record at the ISS World Cup where she earned a silver medal and qualified for the 2012 London Olympics. She secured the 17th position in 10 m air pistol at the London Olympics.
The year 2010 turned out to be a great year for the shooter. At the Commonwealth Shooting Championships 2010, Annu earned 1 gold & 2 silver medals. Annu went on to earn another gold medal at the Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi. She further clinched a silver medal in 10 m air pistol at the Asian Games held in Guangzhou. Her hard work paid her rich dividends in 2011 as well.
