Hazarika Popy Early Life:

Raised through academies, Hazarika Popy has won both junior and senior national level medals before and after the pandemic respectively. The last competition the player featured before the pandemic was in the National Level Weightlifting championship held in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh where she broke the national records.

After representing India on an international level Hazarika Popy wanted to quit weightlifting due to financial issues but her mother supported her and made her dream come true for young weightlifter Hazarika Popy.

Hazarika Popy Professional Life:

If Bindyarani Devi won the medal for India in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in the 54-kg category, it was Hazarika Popy who won the silver medal for the nation. Hazarika Popy won the silver medal in the 64-kg category at the World Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Hazarika Popy lifted a total of 189 kilograms in the clean and jerk category. She lifted 84 kg in the snatch whereas 105 kg in clean and jerk. This led her to the second spot on the podium. Rafiatu Lawal from Nigeria lifted 207 kg whereas N Rajapaksa lifted 164 kg to win the bronze medal for Sri Lanka.

Hazarika Popy Commonwealth Games 2022:

Indian weightlifter Hazarika Popy won the Silver medal at Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship held in Tashkent and did qualify for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022 for the 59 kg weight category.

 

Hazarika Popy Family:

Indian Weightlifter Hazarika Popy had a rough childhood as a kid. She lost her father when she was just 5 years old. Hazarika’s Popy father was a driver and lost his life in an incident with an electric shock. 

When Hazarika Popy lost his father he left them with a widowed wife and three young daughters. Hazarika’s mother played a father role in all the daughter’s life. After her husband died she started working in fields where she used to cut trees and sell them on daily basis.

Hazarika’s mother also took a loan for her further training which includes heavy supplements and organic food but she never wanted Hazarika to give up on her dreams.
