A selection of the greatest footballers in Premier League history

Since being established in 1992, the Premier League has served up an array of memorable moments. England’s top-flight has also played host to a number of hugely talented footballers over the years, with many stars cementing themselves as legends within their respective clubs, given the undoubted impact they had.

These days, there are a number of stars that are making a real name for themselves also. For instance, Tottenham fans’ adoration for Son Heung-min is evident. Likewise, Liverpool supporters are desperate to see Mohamed Salah stay on at the club after the Egyptian’s amazing form over the last few years, which has contributed greatly towards the Reds being in contention for the Premier League title and the Champions League crown, with fans currently sharing their predictions online and assessing any football betting opportunities as the season enters its crucial stage. We have seen some past talents that have had a similar impact to that of Son and Salah, too. In fact, Premier League fans have been spoiled in that respect, with a selection of geniuses wowing viewing audiences with their immense talent over the years.

With a number of incredibly gifted players playing in the biggest league in the world since 1992, let’s take a look back at some of the very best of them.

Paul Scholes – Manchester United

Regarded by many as the best English player of his generation, Paul Scholes is an undoubted Premier League great. A key ingredient behind Manchester United’s domination under Sir Alex Ferguson, the composed midfielder scored 106 goals in England’s top flight and ran the midfield area of the pitch on a regular basis. Although Scholes had weaknesses in his game, such as tackling, his ability of the ball made him a key part of the Manchester United engine room. His vision wasn’t bad either, with the England international always spraying passes for fun.

Alan Shearer – Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United

When most people think of iconic Premier League strikers from over the years, Alan Shearer is one of the first names that immediately springs to mind. After winning the Premier League with Blackburn in 1995, Shearer failed to build on his success in terms of trophies, but he went on to establish himself as a Premier League legend at Newcastle United. Scoring a ridiculous amount of goals in a Toon Army side that was rarely challenging, Shearer is actually the leading scorer in Premier League history with 260 strikes to his name.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Manchester United

Although things haven’t exactly gone to plan since his return to Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo is an undoubted Premier League legend who fine-tuned his game in England and matured further in a Manchester United dressing room that included influential figures such as Roy Keane and Gary Neville. Being handed the iconic no.7 shirt at Old Trafford, Ronaldo is the only player to have been named FIFA World Player of the Year while playing in the Premier League.

Thierry Henry – Arsenal

Perhaps the most complete striker to have graced the biggest league in the world, Thierry Henry is a Gunners legend after playing an integral role in Arsenal’s Invincibles title-winning season. No player has won the Golden Boot more than the Frenchman either, with Henry also recording the most assists in a single season. The catalyst for two Premier League titles for Arsenal, Henry is a talent who would have thrived in any era.

Special mentions must also go to Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Eric Cantona, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, David Silva, Patrick Vieira, Roy Keane, John Terry, and Peter Schmeichel.
