‘You should respect your opponents even if you create history’ -Ajinkya Rahane on why he refused to cut a cake with Kangaroo on it

Ajinkya Rahane who led India brilliantly in absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli to retain Border-Gavaskar Trophy twice on the Australian soil is winning hearts with his gesture when he refused to cut a cake made by his neighbor with a Kangaroo made on it following his return to India.

His gesture is winning hearts on social media and netizens are praising stand in skipper for his remarkable conduct. He explained the reason why he didn’t cut the cake in detail.

“Kangaroo is their national animal. I don’t want to do that. You give your opposition respect, you treat them well even if you win or even if you create history. You have to have respect for your opponent and other countries. That is why I took the decision against cutting the cake with a kangaroo on it,” said the 32-year-old in a chat with Harsha Bhogle.

However Indian team will not get much time to celebrate and sink in their victory as the next challenge is awaiting them where they will be locking horns against England starting from February 5th 2021.

Rahane will be deputy in the upcoming series against England as regular skipper Virat Kohli is back in the squad after completing his paternity leave.

India still have to win two more matches to register their birth for the finals of World Test Championship which is scheduled on 18th June 2021 at Lords.

However if reports and points are taken into consideration India and New Zealand are most likely to play the finals at Lords as both teams stand at top two position in the current World Test Championship rankings. India after playing first two Test match at Chennai will be playing two more matches at Ahmedabad.
