WPL 2023 : Delhi Capitals join Mumbai Indians as the only 2 undefeated teams in the tournament!

WPL 2023 Delhi Capitals join Mumbai Indians as the only 2 undefeated teams in the tournament!

North Indian outfit Delhi Capitals Women have now joined Mumbai Indians Women as the only 2 teams to have a 100% win percentage after 2 Women’s Premier League fixtures. Meg Lanning’s side earned a 42-run victory over UP Warriorz here at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

It was not officially a Derby but since both the franchises come from the Northern region of India, we can call it the North-Indian derby. UP Warriorz led by Alyssas Healy opted to bowl first after winning the toss on a track which is tailor made for Batters.

UP’s strategy was to make full use of the conditions and would have hoped to restrict their opposition for a low total but DC Women completely bamboozled UP with both Bat and Ball. Meg Lanning gave DC the perfect start alongside Shafali Verma who looked a little off the radar tonight.

The U-19 T20 World cup winning Captain could not carry on with her form tonight as she was removed by Tahlia McGrath for 17 and. Marizanne Kapp who came in at number 3 looked good initially but she also received her marching orders by Sophie Eccelstone for just 16.

Jemimah Rodrigues came in at number 4 and played out a smart, mature and composed innings. With Lanning going all guns blazing she Jemimah stood there and supported her. The Aussie went hard on UP bowlers and scored an outstanding 70 runs off 42, scoring 10 4s and 3 Sixes powered by a strike rate of 166 before getting bowled by Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

Alice Capsey also got out for a quickfire 21 off 10 balls but and then began the Jess Jonassen show. Jonassen amassed a brilliant 42 off 20 to get DC to a total of 211.

In response UP Warriorz could score as much as 169 through as their batting line-up heavily flopped with Tahlia McGrath the only batter to score a 50 as she departed for 90 runs.

Delhi Capitals Women after winning this contest have now set up a nail biting face off against Mumbai Indians who are also unbeaten in the tournament. They will lock horns with each other on 9th March at DY Patil Stadium.
