Will Jose Mourinho Be A Different Manager At Spurs?

Jose Mourinho

Tottenham’s decision to recruit Jose Mourinho as their new manager following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino was rather shocking. On paper, it is not a good match.

Mourinho is a manager who spends big in the transfer market. This is something which Spurs do not do and it is also viewed as a major factor as to why the North Londoners have not managed to win a major trophy during the past 11 years.

Jose Mourinho is also known for being a manager who is willing to resort to boring and cheeky tactics if it can bring his side a win. Spurs under Pochettino became renowned for polished performances. Even though the Lilywhites failed to win a major piece of silverware during Pochettino’s five and a half year reign as its manager, they did manage to become one of the most respected sides in the World because of their tendency to play classy football despite not being the most distinguished brand.

Love him or hate him, Mourinho is one of the greatest managers of the modern generation. If history is to be judged, he will be the man to finally lead Spurs to a piece of silverware, he has after all never left a club without having guided it to a piece of silverware in one form or another.

Spurs fans would have to hope that Mourinho would have done a lot of introspection during the past year which would have made him realize that some of his tactics and behaviours just do not fit into the modern game. If Mourinho is indeed a changed man, his time at Spurs could prove to be a success. If he is the Mourinho of old, it could very well end up being another disaster and end on bitter terms as did his previous three managerial jobs.
