Tottenham Hotspur beat Coventry City 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Monday 19 October 2026, claiming their first Premier League win of the 2026/27 season. The result lifted Roberto De Zerbi's side off the bottom of the table. Ben Davies scored in the 90+6th minute to settle a contest that had been level at 1-1 and then finely balanced after the interval.

James Maddison put Spurs ahead in the 14th minute with a curled effort from 22 yards. Jack Rudoni equalised for Coventry in the 49th minute after errors in the Tottenham defence. Van Hecke gave the ball away and Rudoni's first shot was blocked, but Tonali and Adarabioyo were slow to react, and his follow-up beat the Spurs keeper Antonín Kinsky.

Omar Marmoush made it 2-1 in the 58th minute with a strike into the far corner. It was his first goal for Tottenham, and Andy Robertson provided the assist. Coventry head coach Frank Lampard and his players felt they should have been given a free kick, pointing to contact from Marmoush's arm on the face of Milan van Ewijk just before the goal. Marmoush is on loan at Spurs from Manchester City.

Davies sealed the points in stoppage time with a scuffed, outside-of-the-boot effort that beat Carl Rushworth. Dejan Kulusevski had come on as a substitute shortly before, returning after 526 days out injured. Spurs had 73% of the possession to Coventry's 27%, and shots on goal were 3 to 1. Adarabioyo, Robertson and Marmoush all limped off in the second half.

Maddison was making his first start in 536 days, and De Zerbi picked him against his boyhood club. He and Kulusevski were both injured in May 2025, and Kulusevski's serious knee injury came on May 11, 2025. Three Spurs managers, Postecoglou, Frank and Tudor, were sacked while he was out. Maddison has scored 21 Premier League goals from outside the box since August 2018, more than any other player.

The win came at the seventh attempt this season and was only Spurs' fourth at home since Kulusevski and Maddison were hurt. Spurs and Coventry are both on six points, with Tottenham 16th on goal difference (-4 against -8) and Coventry 17th. Spurs have won 1, drawn 3 and lost 3, scoring 6 and conceding 10. Coventry have won 2 and lost 5, scoring 6 and conceding 14.

Rudoni became the first Coventry player to score in consecutive Premier League games since John Hartson in April 2001. Spurs arrived after a 1-1 draw at Manchester United, and De Zerbi took the squad on a team-bonding trip to Marbella in the nine days between that match and this one. No side has dropped more points from winning positions at home in the Premier League since the start of 2024/25 than Spurs, with 30.
