Top 5 Worst Fights in the History of Cricket
Cricket, as we all know, is known as the gentlemen’s game, but there are times when this gentlemen’s game also becomes ugly. These are unfortunate and avoidable circumstances where players get involved in a fight on the field with their opponents, the umpire, or even a fan.
These kinds of incidents typically occur in intense rivalries between two tremendously competitive teams when there is constant back-and-forth teasing that only escalates in size. Fighting has taken place in all incarnations of cricket, whether it be on an international, domestic, or franchise level, resulting in some unpleasant occasions.
1. Virat Kohli vs Gautam Gambhir (Indian Premier League)
During a match between RCB and KKR in IPL 2013, when Kohli got out, he noticed Gautam Gambhir was joyfully celebrating the wicket as he went off the ground feeling dejected. He also heard something he didn’t like. Kohli charged towards him, and Gautam soon followed suit, like two lions rushing into a fight. Again in IPL 2023, Gautam and Kohli got involved in a heated verbal battle after RCB had beaten LSG dominantly.

2. Inzamam ul Haq vs the Spectator (International Cricket)
This incident happened during the second ODI of the series in 1997 at Toronto Cricket, when an Indian fan began calling Inzamam ul Haq “aloo” and advised him to stand up straight because of his body weight. To everyone’s surprise, Inzi, the so-called Gentle Giant, tried to hit the fan with his bat but was stopped by the security personnel. It would have been a black mark on Inzi’s career if he had hit the spectator that day.
3. Shakib Al Hasan vs Umpire (Dhaka Premier League)
Shakib-Al-Hasan recently demonstrated that he is a little bit insane. During a recent local DPL game between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited, he was seen getting into heated disputes with an official. Many of his appeals had been turned down by the umpires. The umpires made the decision to bring on the covers with one ball remaining in the sixth over and a light drizzle. Shakib was furious and ran in the direction of the umpire while wildly pumping his hands and kicking the stumps.
4. Mitchell Starc vs Kieron Pollard (Indian Premier League)
In the 17th over of a tense game, Starc bounced a ball that Pollard misjudged and then sledged him to frighten him. When Starc was halfway through his run-up for the very next ball, Pollard made the deliberate decision to turn away from the delivery. Despite being agitated, Starc continued his run-up and released the ball. Outraged by Starc’s actions, Pollard lifted the bat in an attempt to strike him but dropped it far from anyone. Both players were assessed a fine equivalent to half of their match earnings for their disruptive behaviour.

5. Quinton de Kock vs David Warner (International Cricket)
Throughout the 2018 Australia tour of South Africa, David Warner regularly made fun of Quinton de Kock’s appearance and height. The majority of what Warner said was taken in by Quinny, who afterwards gave Warner his thoughts on his wife and her ex-boyfriend. As they climbed the stairs to the dressing room, they continued their heated argument, with Warner exploding at de Kock’s comments.
