Tokyo 2020: Dutee Chand and Hima Das to participate in Interstate championships for one last shot at Olympic berths

India’s top sprinter including the likes of Hima Das and Dutee Chand will make one last attempt to qualify for Olympics 2020 in the National Interstate Championships beginning in Patiala from Friday.

The championships was initially supposed to be held in Bengaluru has now shifted to NIS due to logistical issue as the elite athletes will not be travelling to Karanataka due to Pandemic.

Two Olympic bound athletes, star Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra who is in training cum competition in Europe and 3000 metre steeplechaser Avinash Sable will not take part in the event.

Dutee Chand missed the qualification mark recently by two hundreds of seconds in the recently concluded Indian Grand Prix 4 in Patiala on Monday by clocking 11.15 seconds.

She will be looking to do better and book an automatic berth though she is on the verge of making in Tokyo Olympics on the basis of World rankings .

Hima who has lower injury problem for a longer time, ran her personal best of 20.88 seconds in 200 m at the IGP 4 but missed the automatic qualification mark of 22.80 seconds.

Hima who is also a part of 4*100 m along with Dutee Chand, Archana Susetharan and S Dhanalakshmi who are looking to book Tokyo Olympics berth.
