The Hundred Mens Competition 2023: Luke Wells Quick Fifty helps Welsh Fire win the match
Luke Wells certainly played the knock of the tournament so far. In the 2nd match of the Welsh Fire, Luke was able to give a brilliant performance through his batting and make his team win. He went on to score a brilliant 57 of only 23 balls. That was also when the number of balls per innings was reduced to only 40 balls, instead of 100 balls. Nobody expected anyone to score a fifty, in these many balls, but Wells was there to surprise the opponents.

Contribution of Luke Wells in the victory of Welsh Fire
Luke Welsh was certainly at his best to make his team win. He ensured that he stayed till the end of the game to set up a big target for the opponent. In this 40 balls match, he was completely successful in doing so.
- The opening partnership of Welsh Fire was 25 runs, and all those 25 runs were scored by Luke Wells alone.
- Once Joe Clarke got out, then Glenn Phillips was there to support Welsh for a healthy partnership. They both took the score from 25 to 83. This was truly a great performance.
- In the last 8 balls, they got 11 more runs, and the final score was 94 runs. That means Manchester Originals were supposed to chase the target of 95 runs.
- However, the pair of Shaheen Afridi, and David Willey were there to take 4 wickets to put pressure on the opponents. It was mainly David Willey who was able to give a brilliant contribution by taking two wickets and also maintaining the RPB of 1.70.
This match showed that he needs to perform well, both in batting and bowling to win a match in this format. It’ll be interesting to see the result of the upcoming matches.
