Sushmitha Singha Roy Biography: Known as the Golden Girl of Midnapore, 35-year-old Sushmitha Singha Roy is an Indian heptathlete who has won numerous medals at International as well National level.
The Indian athlete rose to prominence after earning a silver medal & a bronze medal at the IAAF Asian Championships held in 2005 in Incheon and 2007 in Amman, Jordan respectively.
EARLY LIFE
The athlete began her career as a long jumper during her schooling days at the Alingunj Girls High School.
The young talented girl received full support from her parents as well as teachers which helped her a lot at her early athletic career.

Sushmitha Singha Roy was born on 26th March 1984 in Midnapore, West Bengal, India to Achintya Sinha Roy and Anima Sinha Roy.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
In 2008, Sushmitha got qualified for the Summer Olympics in the Women’s Heptathlon in Beijing after achieving a B-standard from the Indian Federation Cup held in Bhopal. Initially, the athlete secured 33rd rank with 5,705 points.
Unfortunately, Sushmitha was raised to a single higher position when Lyudmila Blonska from Ukraine robbed her silver medal for failing the doping test on methyltestosterone.
The following year, Sushmitha Singha Roy struggled to make her mark at the big stage.
Out of twenty-six athletes, Roy completed last at the IAAF World Championships 2009 held in Berlin, Germany. Her total points were 4,983, which was farther from her personal best of 6,027, set at a national meet in Bangalore.
The athlete also missed out on the Asian Championships 2009 held Guangzhou, China & the Open National Championships held in Bhopal due to her left hamstring injury.
After restoring her good health, she prepared & trained for the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
But Sushmitha missed out on the Commonwealth title as well after completing 6th in the Women’s heptathlon with 5,120 points.
