His cricketing career was filled with injuries, mostly due to recurring back pain. He went through a surgery in 2004 which was not fully successful and he had to suffer a lot due to that. He was banned from international cricket in 2008 when he was playing in India in a domestic tournament and wasn’t available for his country. So the New Zealand cricket board canceled his license for 18 months. Before his cricketing career started, he used to work as a policeman in Christchurch. He married Tracey Bond and became the father of three beautiful children.

In the third season of IPL, he was the highest bid player and got massive bidding money of USD 750,000. The highest level of bidding couldn’t go further and hence he got that amount. He was chosen by Kolkata Knight Riders owned by Indian film star Shah Rukh Khan. He has an autobiography; Shane Bond: Looking Back. In the book, he explained each and every experience he encountered in his long and glorious cricketing career. He captured 87 test wickets, 25 T20 and 147 ODI wickets in his career. He is also a very efficient and wonderful fielder. He got 5 wickets in an innings; this thing happened 4 times in ODI matches and 5 times in Test matches.
