Setback for Real Madrid as Mariano Diaz tests positive for Coronavirus

Mariano Diaz tests positive for Coronavirus

Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz has tested positive for coronavirus ahead of the side’s first clash of the Champions League with Manchester City next week.

The La Liga champions will be concerned about his availability for the game as he won’t be a part of the team until he recovers from the virus. The club issued a statement on Tuesday stating that the striker was asymptomatic and also undergoing regular tests. However, he will still have to self-quarantine at home as a mandatory protocol.

“After the Covid-19 tests carried out individually on our first-team yesterday by the Real Madrid Medical Services, our player Mariano has given a positive result.

“The player is in perfect health and complying with the sanitary isolation protocol at home.” as per the statement.

Mariano also became the first Madrid player to test positive for the virus and due to that he will miss on the trip to Manchester to face the City in the Round 16 of the Champions League.

The Madrid players are currently on a week vacation after they won their 34th La Liga title by defeating Villarreal CF last two weeks ago. Once they return from the break, they will start preparing for their European championship.
