Ryan Burl Biography

Cricket player Ryan Ponsonby Burl plays for the Zimbabwe cricket team at the international level. Ryan was born on April 15, in the year 1994. In the month of February of the year 2017, Ryan made his debut for Zimbabwe in a foreign country.

Early Life

Ryan Burl gave up his Southampton University studies and his county cricket responsibilities in order to play first-class cricket in Zimbabwe.

Domestic and T20 career

Burl was included in an academy squad by Zimbabwe Cricket in the month of February of the year 2017 for a trip to England later in the year. On September 12, of the year 2017, Ryan played his first Twenty20 match for Mis Ainak Knights in the Shpageeza Cricket League.

Burl led Rising Stars in run production in the 2017–18 Logan Cup with 401 runs in five games. Ryan was chosen in the month of November of the year 2019 to represent the Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League for the 2019–20 season.

Burl was chosen to represent the Rhinos in the 2020–21 Logan Cup in the month of December of that year.

International Career

Ryan Burl, a cricketer from Zimbabwe, made his Test debut against South Africa in the month of  December of the year 2017 after making his One Day International (ODI) debut for Zimbabwe against Afghanistan in the month of February of the year 2017. On February 5, of the year 2018, Burl made his Twenty 20 International (T20I) debut for Zimbabwe against Afghanistan. In a T20I match against Shakib Al Hasan in the month of September of the year 2019, Burl scored 30 runs, which is the second-most runs by a Zimbabwean batter off one over ever. By tweeting about his ruined sneakers and pleading for sponsorship for himself and other Zimbabwean players in the month of May of the year 2021, Burl brought attention to the terrible realities and everyday challenges of an average Zimbabwean cricketer. 

Burl was selected for Zimbabwe’s team for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 (Twenty 20) World Cup Global Qualifier B competition in the month of July of the year 2022. Burl recorded his first One Day International (ODI) five-wicket haul and had his greatest bowling performance in ODIs (One Day Internationals) against Australia in the third and final match. Ryan Ponsonby Burl’s bowling effort held Australia to just 141 runs, enabling Zimbabwe to defeat Australia for the first time in history. Burl was named the game’s MVP thanks to his record-breaking ball-handling abilities.
