Wellington Masakadza Biography

Born on October 4, 1993, Zimbabwean cricketer Wellington Pedzisai Masakadza has represented the Mountaineers and the Mashonaland Eagles in both first-class and limited-overs competitions. On October 9, of the year 2015, Wellington played in his first One Day International (ODI) for Zimbabwe against Ireland. On October 26, of the year 2015, Wellington made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for Zimbabwe against Afghanistan.

Domestic Career

The other two Masakadza brothers, Hamilton (born 1983) and Shingirai (born 1986), who have both played Test cricket for Zimbabwe’s national team, are also from Harare. Masakadza is the youngest of the three brothers who have all played at the highest levels of the game. Wellington Masakadza played in three games for the Zimbabwean under-19s during the 2012 Under-19 World Cup as a slow left-arm orthodox spinner and left-handed batsman. After excelling in four Twenty20 trial games played previous to the commencement of the season, Wellington Pedzisai Masakadza earned his senior debut for the Mountaineers club during the 2013–14 domestic season.

Masakadza later participated in five Logan Cup games, taking 15 wickets. On his first-class debut against the Matabeleland Tuskers, he recorded stats of 5/63. Wellington Pedzisai Masakadza was chosen for the Zimbabwe A team that toured Bangladesh in September 2014 and participated in two first-class matches and three one-day matches. In the first of those matches, Masakadza recorded his best numbers with a 6/63. Along with both of his brothers, he was later chosen for the 17-man Test squad for the Zimbabwean senior team’s tour of Bangladesh in October and December, but Wellington Masakadza did not take part in any of the Tests for Zimbabwe. Masakadza changed teams and joined the Mashonaland Eagles for the 2014–15 Zimbabwean season.

Wellington Pedzisai Masakadza was chosen to represent the Mountaineers in the 2020–21 Logan Cup in December of that year.

International Career

On October 9, 2015, Wellington Pedzisai Masakadza played in his first One Day International for Zimbabwe against Ireland, although he was unable to have an influence on the series. Wellington Pedzisai Masakadza took 4 for 21 runs during Zimbabwe’s tour of Afghanistan, and Zimbabwe eventually won the game easily by 8 wickets. Masakadza was selected as the game’s MVP.

Wellington Pedzisai Masakadza was included in Zimbabwe’s Test squad for their series against Bangladesh in September 2018. On November 3, 2018, Wellington Masakadza played his first Test for Zimbabwe against Bangladesh.
