The 2022-23 Ranji Trophy which is the 88th edition of the premier first class cricket of India has reached the Quarter-final stages with 8 teams battling it out for the ultimate prize. This tournament is one of India’s most important and historic tournament which has been taking place since 1934.
Bombay – present day Mumbai were the inaugural winners and have also won the most number of Ranji trophies in the history of the tournament. This season, 38 teams were divided into 5 groups – Elite A, B, C, D and the Plate group. After weeks of tussle only 8 teams remain and 4 will proceed to the next round.
Shifting our focus back on the Quarter-final 4 between Punjab and Saurashtra. The match is being played at Saurashtra’s home ground where they won the toss and were bowled out for 303 runs. Snell Patel’s 70 and Vishvaraj Jadeja and Sheldon Jackson’s 28 and 18 provided the initial base.
Then Parth Bhut who came to bat at number 9 took the charge on Punjab bowlers and scored very important 111 off 155 balls to help Saurashtra reach 300 runs. Punjab’s Mayank Markande had took the most wickets – 4.
In response, Punjab got off to a very bright start with centuries coming from both the openers. Prabhsimran Singh and Naman Dhir scored 126 and 116 respectively.
