Not gonna watch the WTC final, India best team in the world: Nathan Lyon

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has said that he won’t be watching the Inaugural edition of the World Test Championship final which will be played between  India and New Zealand.

As Kangaroos fell short of qualifying as the other finalist spot by just a 0.8% difference between their points with that of New Zealand’s.

However, it was due to a slow over-rate by Australia during the Boxing day Test against India in December 2020.

Nathan Lyon talked about the WTC final in detail on the podcast organized by cric.com.au where he termed India as the best team in the world. However, he added that If Duke ball will be used during the final then it will give an advantage to New Zealand with all the swing bowlers they have in their lineup.

“Not gonna watch [the WTC final]… I think the best team in the world is India. I was under the impression that the team that finishes on top chooses the ball. So if it was Australia vs New Zealand, we wouldn’t have picked the Dukes ball because of the quality of swing bowling in New Zealand. Its little things like that will play a massive role in the game. If they play with the Dukes ball New Zealand will come into play,” said Nathan Lyon.

The Duke ball generates more seam as compared to other balls as it is hand-stitched however it is not announced by ICC which ball will be used in the final.

The final match between India and New Zealand will be played in Southampton on June 18th, 2021.
