Punjab Kings Captain Shikhar Dhawan, revealed that one of the main causes of their defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 56 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 was his decision to play with an extra spinner. With seven available bowling choices, Punjab Kings chose to bowl first.
However, they ultimately gave up 257/5 runs. Punjab has a number of speed bowlers but no spinner. We forfeited too many runs. When he was dismissed, I thought the ball (which didn’t come on quickly to the bat) went straight to the fielder. I thought my decision to play with an additional bowler went awry. Today we didn’t get a spinner. I’m learning from it.

Sikandar Raza’s (23 off 14) and Liam Livingstone’s (36 off 22) explosive English performances weren’t enough to offer the hosts a realistic chance at the aim. Despite Atharava Taide’s impressive 66 off 36 balls, his first fifty-plus score in the IPL, the Punjab club was unable to cross the finish line thanks to his late lunge for the goal.
