Muhammad Waseem makes history as first UAE player to win ICC Player of the Month award

The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced the winners of its Player of the Month awards for April 2024, recognizing exceptional performances across the world of cricket. Among the awardees, Muhammad Waseem of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) etched his name in history by becoming the first player from his nation to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award.

“The award is a big motivation for players especially those from emerging cricket teams like the UAE,” Waseem stated. Reflecting on the recently concluded ACC Premier Cup, he expressed his pride in his team’s performance. “Last month, our goal in the ACC Premier Cup in Oman was to qualify for next year’s Asia Cup and I am proud of my team and their performance in the tournament.”

On a personal level, Waseem cherished the opportunity to lead from the front, particularly in the high-pressure final. “At a personal level I am happy that I led the team from the front especially in the final,” he said. “Scoring a century in a big game is indeed a special moment, especially when it helps the team to victory.”
