Personal Life

Monank Patel, born in the Gujarat state of India, has had a liking for the wooden cricket bat since his childhood. He was enrolled in a cricket academy in his teenage years by his parents, and he went on to play cricket at the under-16 and under-18 levels for the Gujarat state team. In the year 2010, a turning point came in his life when he got a green card but shifted permanently to the United States in 2016. He settled himself in New Jersey but did not stop playing cricket, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Career

In August 2018, he was named to the United States squad for the ICC World Twenty20 Americas Qualifier competition in Morrisville, North Carolina, where he scored the most runs (208 in six matches). 

In October 2018, he was named to the West Indies Regional Super50 team, where he made his List A debut against Combined Campuses and Colleges on October 6. He achieved the first century by an American in the competition against Jamaica and finished as the US’s top run-scorer with 290 runs in seven matches.

Later that month, he was chosen for the ICC World Cricket League Division Three competition in Oman and was dubbed the player to watch. He made 107 runs in the first match against Uganda. In February 2019, he was nominated to the US T20I squad for their series against the UAE, which marked the team’s inaugural T20I matches, and he made his debut on March 15, 2019.

In April 2019, he was a member of the squad for the ICC World Cricket League Division Two competition in Namibia, where the United States earned ODI status. He made his one-day international debut on April 27, 2019, against Papua New Guinea. In June 2019, he was part of a 30-man training squad for the T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier and later signed a 12-month central contract with USA Cricket.

In August 2019, he competed in the T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier Regional Final. In November 2019, he led the US in the Regional Super50 tournament, scoring 230 runs in eight matches. He was selected for the Minor League Cricket competition in June 2021 and returned to the US squad for the Oman Tri-Nation Series in August 2021, when he scored his first ODI century in the opening match. In October 2021, he was selected as the as the captain of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier in Antigua.
