The way Gunnar’s men were playing, it somehow seemed clear that Southampton had no chance in the game until the extra time saw Michael Obafemi netting a brilliant goal to level the score to 1-1 and the fate of the match changed completely.
Manchester United maintained their lead to 90+6 minutes of the match, unfortunately, that goal from Obafemi ruined everything for the hosts at the Old Trafford and hence, Manchester United settled for the fifth place in the Premier League rankings. Their chances of making it to the Champions League is still high but leapfrogging Leicester City in the PL rankings were restricted.
Manchester United currently have 59 points and scheduled to meet Crystal Palace in their next Premier League fixture while Southampton faces Brighton on Friday this week.
