Longest Losing Streaks in IPL History

Pune Warriors India

Winning matches is all about momentum, win a match and continue the winning habit further. But is the momentum limited only to winning? Well, it is not so, teams tend to even carry a losing momentum with them. Having lost one match, a team needs to get back strongly or else they would lose the next match as well and when a team loses two more matches, there is a chance that a team has caught on to the momentum of losing. A momentum very tough to get rid of. Here are the top five longest losing streaks in IPL history.

#5. Delhi Daredevils – 8 matches (2013)

Delhi Daredevils

The year 2013 did not prove to be a great year for the Delhi Daredevils as they yet again finished at the bottom of the table. The team lost thirteen out of their sixteen games. The team just managed to win three games throughout the league. The team lost back to back eight games in the tournament and could not get over their losses, despite having a great lineup the players couldn’t deliver as the opposition ran through the Daredevils with ease. As a result the Daredevils are with in the list of the top five longest losing streaks in IPL history.

#4. Kolkata Knight Riders – 9 matches (2009)

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders are one of the most decorated franchises in the tournament’s history, the team has lifted the prestigious trophy twice, so the team’s entry into the list for the top five longest losing streaks in IPL history might come as a surprise for a lot of people. Kolkata Knight Riders ended up at the bottom of the table in the 2009 edition of the tournament. The team lost ten out of fourteen matches in the tournament while one was wiped off due to rain. Out of their 10 losses 9 came on a streak.

#3. Pune Warriors India – 9 matches (2013)

Pune Warriors India

One of the two new franchises that debuted in the 2012 edition of the Indian Premier League hoped to forget their first season and bounce back in the next edition of the tournament. Though things didn’t go the way the management and players of the franchise hoped for, the team performed better than their debut and finished second from the bottom of the table. Pune lost 9 matches in a row to make it into the list for the top five longest losing streaks in IPL history. The team didn’t get any further chances as they were terminated by the BCCI.

#2. Pune Warriors India – 11 matches (2012)

Pune Warriors India

The 2012 edition of the Indian Premier League was a nightmare for the new franchise as the team lost twelve out of their sixteen matches and ended at the bottom of the table. The team’s momentum hit the rock bottom at the initial stages of the tournament as they lost back to back eleven matches. Their losing streak of eleven matches places them at number 2 in the list for the top five longest losing streaks in IPL history. The dressing room couldn’t bounce back from such harsh losses and just served two points on the platter for their oppositions.

#1. Delhi Daredevils – 11 matches (2014)

Delhi Daredevils

If Delhi Daredevils would be asked to wipe out one of their records from the history book, they would definitely choose to wipe out a record they created in the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League. The team lost twelve out of fourteen matches in the tournament and set the record for the longest losing streak tying with Pune Warriors India who lost the same amount of matches in succession in the previous edition. The only reason Delhi is on the top of the list for the top five longest losing streaks in IPL history is because of their lower run rate than that of Pune Warriors in 2012.
