Lionel Messi To Join Inter Miami After PSG Exit

FIFA World Cup winner Lionel Messi announced that he will sign for Major League Soccer side Inter Miami. He has chosen United States as his next destination over a Barcelona reunion or blockbuster deal to play in Saudi Arabia. The 35-year-old will start his new football journey from the US.

The Argentine forward has spent the last two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, playing his final game for the club on Saturday, after moving from Barcelona in 2021, where he spent the majority of his career. MLS and Inter Miami confirmed the news on social media, although the American league noted: “work remains to finalise a formal agreement”.

Lionel Messi Statement on Choosing Inter Miami

Lionel Messi spoke to the Spanish publications Mundo Deportivo and Diario Sport. Messi said, “Although I haven’t decided whether the transaction is completely sealed or if there is still work to be done, we have chosen to continue on our way to Miami.”

“I chose to depart from Europe… ” Now that I’ve won the World Cup but can’t go to Barcelona, it’s time to move to Major League Soccer so I can experience football in a new way and enjoy my daily life more. Obviously, with greater calm, and with the same responsibility and desire to succeed and do things well,” Messi added.

Messi has won the Ballon d’Or seven times and is predicted to do it again after leading Argentina to a World Cup victory in Qatar in December 2022.

After PSG announced this week that Messi, who is widely regarded as the greatest player in football history, would be leaving, the entire football world was eagerly expecting his choice.

Messi chose to join MLS, choosing sunny Miami, a location he has vacationed in before, over the romance of a return to Barcelona and the possibility of staggering riches in Saudi Arabia.
