Leeds United acquire Jean Kelvin Augustin from RB Leipzig

Leeds United complete the signing of Jean-Kelvin Augustin from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the loan period. The 22-year-old French international is signed as the replacement to Eddie Nketiah who has been called back by his parent club, Arsenal after the Gunner found it hard to get the playing time at Leeds.

However, to find more game time, the player joined the Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in 2017 for a reported fee of €13 million. The player has an experience of 67 games in the German top-tier and has featured in both UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The player has 20 goals in 67 appearances.

Jean Kelvin Augustin is the third signing of Leeds United after the arrival of Elia Caprile and Ian Poveda in the current transfer window. The player is expected to wear the jersey no 29 at Elland Road who has helped the French international team to win European Under-19 Championship in 2016.

Talking to the media, Augustin had his say over the transfer;

“First of all for the coach and it’s a historical club in England. It has a big objective this season to go back to the Premier league. I know it has been 16 years since they were in the Premier League, so of course the project already excited me.”

When asked about  what he can give to the club, the player opined:

“I hope to bring my quality to the team. It’s an exciting project for the players, for the city and for the fans. I’m going to bring my football while I’m learning with him and helping the team while doing that.”

On expectations of fans, Jean Kelvin Augustin said:

“They are going to see a player who is always going to leave everything on the pitch, try to score goals and help the team. I want to transmit my passion for football, I really love football.”
