Jaydev Unadkat becomes first bowler in Ranji trophy to take a hat-trick in the first over of the match

Veteran Indian Pacer Jaydev Unadkat who plays for Saurashtra in Ranji Trophy wrote history after he removed 3 batters to take a hat-trick in the very first over of their match against Delhi. Unadkat is playing in the domestic circuit for the first time since featuring in the Test series between India and Bangladesh last December.

Not only did he pick up a hat-trick in the first over but he also ended up with career best figures of 8 for 39 on his comeback to Ranji trophy. From Delhi’s perspective it was a match to forget. They won the toss and asked Saurashtra to bowl first and it did not go too well. The opening pair of Dhruv Shorey and Vaibhav Rawal received their marching orders in the very first over by Jaydev Unadkat.

The duo got out for a duck and it had set the tone for Unadkat to grab a famous hat-trick. After Shorey and Rawal’s dismissal, the Saurashtra pacer removed Captain Yash Dhull for a golden duck. The Capital outfit were reduced to 0/3 with Jaydev Unadkat becoming the first bowler in the history of the tournament to notch a hat-trick in the very first 6 balls of the match.

But the 31-year-old did not stop there. Unadkat kept his form and ball break through the Delhi batting line up one by one. He tore the middle order and none of the Delhi batters were expecting to become recipients of Unadkat’s ruthlessness. The Left-arm pacer then got the wickets of Jonty Sindhu (4), Lalit Yadav (0) and Wicket-keeper Lakshay Thareja for 1.

As a result Delhi were reduced to 10/7 with Unadkat picking 6 wickets before Lunch. Pranshu Vijayran and Hritik Shokeen then steadied Delhi’s sinking ship to some extent as they helped the team cross 50-run mark. However, their partnership did not last much longer as Prerak Mankad, who was picked by Punjab Kings during 2023 IPL Auction broke their 43-run stand to make it 53/8.

Then came Shivank Vashisht to bat and he further steadied Delhi’s innings by adding 24 runs with Hritik Shokeen getting to his Fifty to take Delhi 108/8 before Lunch on Day 1. Jaydev Unadkat came back from an impressive tour to Bangladesh as India white washed their neighbors by 2-0.

Unadkat was playing only his second test match of his career having made his debut almost 12 years ago against South Africa in 2010. Against Bangladesh last month, Unadkat picked 2 wickets in the first innings and 3 in the following innings. If we talk about his Domestic first class record then he has amassed 356 wickets in 97 matches with an outstanding economy of less than 3.
