IPL 2023 : Sunil Gavaskar backs Mumbai Indians to win their record 6th title!

Indian Premier League’s most successful team Mumbai Indians will have a point to prove in the upcoming edition of the tournament which is less than 2 weeks away from getting underway. The 5-time champions had a season to forget last year as they finished at the bottom of the points table and this year MI will hope to make amends.

Rohit Sharma and Co. will be aiming to finish at the top half of points table but the competition will be tougher than ever. They dealt with 2 major upsets before the start of IPL itself as Senior Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Australian pacer Jhye Richardson have been ruled out of the entire league.

Their disappointing campaign in the 2022 edition was mainly because of a poor performance of the bowlers who failed to stage a comeback in the entirety of the tournament. Thus it will be interesting to see who they will bring in as replacements fro Richardson and Bumrah.

Meanwhile, former Indian Batter and 1983 World cup winner Sunil Gavaskar thinks otherwise. The 72-year-old believes that despite injuries to their main fast bowlers, MI still have good chances of winning their record 6th IPL title this year.

He also added that Rohit Sharma has plenty of talents in their squad which can make up for Bumrah’s absence this season but first MI will have to forget what all happened last year. “They have to forget what happened last season and believe that they have the team to do it again. They will miss Jasprit Bumrah.”

Gavaskar told to star sports that Mumbai Indians will finish anywhere in the top 3 of this year’s standings. “But they have a team that can win the championship once again. I see them in the top three definitely because they have a point to prove after last year’s performance.” – Sunil Gavaskar added.

One of the main things to notice is that MI still haven’t brought a replacement for both Injured Bumrah and Jhye Richardson but they do have time to re think and bring in the best possible fit. Where will Mumbai Indians end up this season?
