IPL 2023 : Delhi Capitals bowling coach Ajit Agarkar defends Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan after loss to GT!

Delhi Capitals had a terrible outing last night against Gujarat Titans during their first home game of the season. David Warner’s side were also searching for their maiden win of IPL 2023 but a Batting blunder saw GT cruise past DC by 6 wickets and 11 balls to spare.

The management could have also lined-up a better playing XI yesterday as DC lacked batting firepower and certain big players under performed in front of home crowd. Except for David Warner in the top order, none of the batters were able to make an impact.

Other Warner’s 37, Sarfaraz Khan scored a very slow 30 off 34 runs while Abhishek Porel and Axar Patel’s quickfire innings towards the end helped them post the 150+. One of the batters who could have hoped for a better night out was  opener Prithvi Shaw who was just a guest of 5 deliveries.

Shaw was able to get 4 and 3 singles before Shami struck his nerves and tested his weakness. The Mumbai born batter while retaliating to a short pitched ball, fell into a similar trap which has seen him get out in the same way plenty of times.

He is without a doubt under a lot of criticism and his team mate Sarfaraz Khan has also been included in the chat. Both of the players had extra-ordinary seasons in the domestic circuit but has failed to replicate their form in the tournament this year.

Both struggled in front of pace bowling and DC bowling coach Ajit Agarkar thinks that it is pointless to blame just one or two players when the entire batting order did not perform well.

“I mean they (Shaw and Sarfaraz) have got runs against fast bowling. I don’t think we batted well so why point out one or two guys. None of our top order players really got going in both the games. We haven’t had big runs at the top which some of the other teams have.” – said Agarkar.
